Abstract

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is considered as a complex genetic trait: not only do multiple genetic loci contribute to susceptibility, but environmental factors also play a major role in determining risk. A large body of evidence indicates that inherited genetic factors influence both susceptibility and resistance to the disease.
