Contactless conductivity detection is universal detection mode for electrophoretic techniques that exceeds the classical conductometry, because the disturbing effect of separation voltage on the conductivity measurement is successfully eliminated. Contactless conductivity detection is employed in combination with thin capillaries or planar microchips.
Contactless conductivity detection is advantageously used for electrophoretic determination of non-absorbing compounds such inorganic ions, amino acids, low-molecular mass organic acids and carbohydrates with limit of detection at the micromolar levels.
