Abstract

Herpesviruses (family Herpesviridae) are the biggest known virus agents. Herpesviruses occur ubiquitously in all populations trough out the world.

It's a characteristic feature of herpesviruses, that they generally remain in a latent form after clearance of primary infection. Primary infections (frequently asymptomatic) most commonly occur in childhood.

The overall majority of clinical problems are related to activated latent infections. This review concerns with ocular infections of herpesviruses, their characteristics, diagnostics and therapy.
