Abstract

Negative lifestyle changes associated with inappropriate eating behavior, accompanied by a lack of physical activity lead to a worldwide increase in the number of individuals with excessive body weight. This trend is supported by the significant influence of other factors such as genetic, infectious or psychobehaviorálních.

COPAT Project (Childhood Obesity Prevalence And Treatment) study dealt with both factors contributing to overweight and obesity among Czech adolescents aged 13.0 to 17.9 years and the factors that influence the success of short-term reduction mode. The first reference group consisted of adolescents selected by random stratified sampling (epidemiological studies).

The second group were monitored adolescents, where it has developed overweight or obesity (intervention study). The present communication introduces the modus operandi of epidemiological and intervention studies with sub-project outputs.
