The aim of epidemiology is to prevent the occurrence and spread of infectious and mass-occurring disorders. Epidemiology also provides the indispensable basis for dealing with situations related to threats to public health and misuse of biological agents (bioterrorism).
Field epidemiology studies in human population relationships between man and the external environment with emphasis on the study of the causes of disease and ill health, an analysis of their occurrence and trends.
