Up to 75 % of the very young children diagnosed with pertussis are infected at home, most often by their parents. "Cocoon" is a strategy for pertussis vaccination focusing on people closest to babies, i.e. parents (mothers would be vaccinated eithr before conception or after giving birth), grandparents and all the persons who come into regular contact with the children during the first yeasr of their life.
