Malnutrition in seniors

Abstract

Seniors represent a potentially vulnerable group for the occurrence of faults nutritional status (WHO, 2002). Malnutrition threatens man with serious health complications, increased morbidity and mortality, impairs its functional performance and overall quality of life.

Monitoring and evaluation of the nutritional status of older people is an essential part of health care to this population group. Many monitoring shows that a considerable portion of seniors is found in malnourished or at risk of it.

Our project was described by the nutritional status of clients 815 elderly people in Prague. At 10.2% was observed state of malnutrition and 39.4% were in the risk of malnutrition.

Results of the study confirmed the need for seniors, especially women, spend in nutrition care attention.
