Tapentadol - a novel opioid analgesic inhibiting noradrenaline reuptake

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2012

Abstract

Tapentadol is a new opioid analgesic chemically related to tramadol. Unlike Tramadol has a greater effect on µ-opioid receptors, inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine only, not serotonin (proposing the designation of analgesic type MOR-NRI, µ-opioid receptor agonist and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) and has no active metabolites.

All this is advantageous in terms of strength analgesic effect (given similar to that of oxycodone) and safety in kidney diseases.
