Very fast electrophoretic methods have been developed for determination of creatinine and uric acid in human urine with diode-array detection. The separations were performed in a laboratory-made combination of two capillaries with different inner diameters.
Determination of creatinine was successfully performed in 20 mM citric acid/NaOH (pH 3.0) and the determination of uric acid in 30 mM MES/NaOH (pH 6.0) as background electrolytes. The developed methods are characterized by a separation time around 10 s and limits of detection 1.4 µM for both analytes.
A dilution of the urine sample with water was the only step necessary before the electrophoresis analysis.
