Abstract

Finding of genetically divergent population of Daphnia similis group in Munich, Germany. A persisting population of an unidentified and probably undescribed cladoceran, morphologically similar to Daphnia similis CLAUS 1876 but genetically divergent, was found in small temporary pools in a military area in Munich, Germany.

It is the first documented finding of this species complex on the territory of Germany after more than 110 years. The possibility of anthropogenic introduction and the existence of sibling species related to D. similis are discussed.
