Abstract

The children of the crown prince Franz Ferdinand d´Este and Sophie Chotek were denied their title to the throne and their right to use the name of Habsburg. Thus, they accepted the new name of their mother – Hohenberg – and the title of duke.

Their position within the Austrian-Hungarian society, however, was firmly establised only later during the reign of the Emperor Charles I. in 1917
