The authors investigated the effect of a combined operation, ECCE + TE + IOL, on reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP), changes in antiglaucomatous treatment and on vision six months after operation. In 1994 36 eyes were operated, 16 eyes with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), 8 eyes with angular glaucoma (PACG) and 12 eyes with marked exfoliative syndrome (CG).
Six months after operation the IOP declined from 26.4 mm Hg to 13.3 mm Hg (P 0.05), antiglaucomatous treatment was reduced from 2.55 to 1.11 (P 0.05), vision improved by 0.39, i.e. by 2-3 lines of optotypes (P 0.05). 89% of the operated patients have a vision better than 0.5. Comparison of values before and after operation revealed a more marked drop of IOP in CG (P 0.05) than in POAG.
