Scleral reinforcement by Pivovarov with minimal modifications was performed on 397 eyes with myopia progressiva and 330 with m. gravis, mean age at the time of surgery was 12.2 +/- 3.0 yrs resp. 10.8 +/- 3.9 yrs. Follow-up up to 7 yrs.

Indications for surgery: myopia over -6 D + progression 1 and more D/yr or myopia over -10 D. Visual acuity was on average better throughout the follow-up in both groups as compared to starting values.

Myopia progression slowed down after surgery and was 0.26 D/y in m. progressiva and 0.23/y in m. gravis. Scleral reinforcement can play some role in management of myopia.
