Abstract

CT is widely used in established indications such as pulmonary embolism and aortic dissection. For these tests ECG synchronization is not required and older generation equipment is sufficient.

The most frequent indication for cardiac CT angiography is ischemic heart disease, the indications however are not yet strictly defined. According to the recommendations asymptomatic patients with moderate risk and symptomatic patients with low risk, in both cases when ECG and cardiospecific markers are negative and stress test is noniagnostic, are indicated for CT coronarography.

Anappropriate is the use of CT as a screening tool in asymptomatic patients with low risk and in acute coronary syndrome. Suitable indication is also evalutaion of aortocoronary bypass.

Congenital heart defects imaging, heart imaging for the purpose of arrythmologic operations planning and utilization of CT in the differential diagnosis of expansion and in evaluating pericardial diseases belong among other less common indications
