Abstract

With the level of medical care and diagnosis as well as changes in lifestyle, the number of patients suffering from various types of immunodeficiency is increasing. Physicians of all specialties meet immunodeficient patients.

General practitioners are often the ones that patients come to with intercurrent infections. Therefore, it is necessary to know the categories of patients who can be presumed to be immunodeficient and to apply adequate treatment.

This article provides an overview of the basic types of immunodeficiencies, divided according to the affected component of immunity and groups of disease states that occur most frequently in practice.
