Seasonal influenza - clinical picture, prevention possibilities

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2008

Abstract

Influenza is a respiratory infection that can affect up to a third of the population in the cold months of the year. It is often mistaken for respiratory infections of other etiologies.

Uncomplicated influenza is not treated with antibiotics, so its early diagnosis helps to reduce irrational antibiotic prescription. Despite the development of diagnostic and therapeutic options, influenza vaccination remains the most effective prevention.

In the Czech Republic, despite education, vaccination coverage is low even in risk groups compared to European countries.
