A neurenteric cyst (NEC) is a very rare diagnosis. These congenital lesions are defined as cysts lined by mucin-secreting epithelium, resembling that of the gastrointestinal tract.
A neurenteric cyst can develop anywhere along the neuraxis, although it is predominantly found at the lower cervical and upper thoracic spinal level. The goal of surgical treatment is complete excision of the cyst, including its capsule.
