A Sudden Cardiac Death at the Child Age

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2005

Abstract

The paper presents a survey of sudden cardiac death and morphological findings in youngsters, which occurs during physical load and therefore also during sports. Primary myocardiopathies are the most frequent findings and a sudden cardiac death is associated with all types: hypertrophie, dilated, restrictive as well as arrhythmogenic hypertrophy/dysplasia of the right heart ventricle.

For the prevention and therefore also for a timely diagnosis a detailed examination is important already in placement of sportsmen. During this examination not only the physical finding, but also a detailed anamnesis are required in view of familial incidence of all types of cardiomyopathies.

A more detailed laboratory diagnostic and genetic screening exceeds present possibilities of medical services in this country.
