Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2007

Abstract

The book is intended primarily for neurologists and infectionists who care for HIV / AIDS patients. However, it also brings a lot of interesting information to experts in other fields that deal with the treatment of immunodeficiency conditions of various origins.

The text of the publication is structured into four parts. The first part presents a brief introduction to the issue of HIV infection (pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical classification of HIV / AIDS, antiretroviral therapy).

The second, special part presents current knowledge about the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinic and therapy of neurological complications of HIV / AIDS. It contains in particular a detailed description of all aspects of the main neurological complications caused by the effects of HIV infection itself - HIV encephalopathy and polyneuropathy.

The following is a description of the complications of HIV infection in the nervous system of infectious, tumor and vascular origin, as well as the side effects of neurological therapy, seizures and painful conditions occurring in HIV / AIDS. The third part informs about the results of research on the issue of neurological complications of HIV / AIDS, which was addressed by both authors.

The purpose of the last, fourth part of the book is to provide physicians treating HIV / AIDS patients with practical diagnostic and therapeutic instructions for addressing the most common neurological complications that occur in these patients.
