Abstract

Traumatic lesions of menisci and ligamentous apparatus of the knee joint were analyzed in a group of 840 patients (460 men and 380 women). An accompanying damage of soft structures of the knee joint was demonstrated in 91% of men and 88% of women.

Combinations of lesions of medial meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament, medial meniscus, medial collateral ligament and anterior crucial ligament, and medial menisci and medial collateral ligament occurred most frequently. Fractures of skeleton, which remained unnoticed during conventional X-ray examinations, were demonstrated during MR examination and it became possible to follow the incidence of bone marrow edema.

The evaluation of lesions of the knee soft tissues was in agreement with arthroscopic or surgical diagnosis in 92% of cases.
