Abstract

In most patients, there is a phase during the disease when prostate cancer is under the influence of androgens - a state of hormonal dependence. The use of hormonal treatment for this disease is based on this fact.

The aim of treatment is to prevent the proliferation of hormone-sensitive tumor cells by suppressing androgen production or their binding to hormone receptors in the target organ. The result of our efforts is neither 100% nor permanent, because the tumor is composed of a heterogeneous cell population in which both cells are hormone sensitive and hormone resistant.

In addition, after varying lengths of time during tumor cell proliferation, the hormone-resistant cell subpopulation increases, resulting in a loss of response to this treatment.
