Functional mitral regurgitation

Publication |
2008

Abstract

Functional mitral regurgitation represents formidable challenge for cardiologists. It imposes poor prognosis among patients with both ischemic as well as non?ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy.

During subsequent course it leads to pronounced remodeling of left ventricle, exaggerating itself and fi nally to the acceleration of chronic heart failure, even despite existing pharmacotherapy. Promising results of the cardiac resynchronization therapy in terms of attenuating this valve incompetence were observed in many trials.
