Role of echocardiography in the diagnosis of infective endocarditis

Publication |

Abstract

Infective endocarditis is an inflammatory affection of endocardium, particularly of the valves and surrounding heart structures. The disease can be acute or insidious; recurrences and re-infections are not infrequent.

Besides consistent treatment early diagnosis and its potential complications setting is essential for the patient's fate. Echocardiographic examination should be indicated as soon as possible after suspicion of infective endocarditis.
