Pregnancy associated plasma protein A as a quick and sensitive biomarker in early phase of acute coronary syndrome

Abstract

We read with the great interest the recent report by Iversen et al bringing evidence that increased levels of pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) in the early stage of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) seem to be more sensitive biomarker than creatine-kinase-MB (CKMB) and troponin T, reflecting myocardial necrosis, within < 6 hours after the onset of symptoms or < 2 hours after primary percutaneous coronary intervention. PAPP-A was measured by newly developed sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique based on two monoclonal antibodies.
