Abstract

The presented case report includes a description of the therapeutical response following the addition of liraglutide to the current intensified insulin treatment in a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus after the heart transplantation with grade III renal insufficiency according to K/DOQI. This patient with unsatisfactory compensated diabetes despite the treatment with insulin analogues had, because of his comorbidities, only limited choices of combined antidiabetic treatment.

Following the addition of liraglutide into the therapeutical regimen the metabolic compensation significantly improved during next three months and it has been remaining stable within entirely satisfactory range for a period of two years. Moreover, it was possible to reduce the doses of insulin without a negative impact on the compensation of the diabetes and the treatment proceeds safely with impaired but stable renal functions of our patient.
