Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTI) belong among most common bacterial infections. They are associated with high morbidity and high treatment costs.

From a clinical point of view it is very important differentiate between complicated and uncomplicated forms. For each of these subgroups we choose a different treatment strategy.

In this review we provide basic data about the epidemiology and pathogenesis, and address particularly principles of treatment, with regard to the clinical differentiation.
