Dendritic cells in health and disease

Publication

Abstract

The immune system has multiple pathways for recognizing and responding to microbial components and other danger-related stimuli. Dendritic-cell lineage of white blood cells controls this intricate system by linking the innate and adpative immunity.

Dendritic cells (DCs) represent the most potent antigen presenting cells (APCs) with the potential to either stimulate or inhibit the immune responses. Exploiting the immune - regulatory capacities of DCs holds great promise for both understanding and treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases and the prevention of transplant rejection.
