Use of aromatase inhibitors to stimulate the ovaries

Publication |
2006

Abstract

Aromatase inhibitors block the last step of the enzymatic production of estrogens: the A-cycle aromatization of aromatizable androgens, namely androstenedione and testosterone. Substances that interfere with aromatase activity have been available for many years.

Substances from the aminoglutethimide era were non-specific and had a large number of side effects. The third generation of aromatase inhibitors is highly specific in its effect and practically free of side effects.

These substances are approved for the treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women with advanced findings, or as an adjuvant treatment.
