Abstract

Since the last issue of Pediatric Cardiology by prof. In 1983, Šamánka and co-authors made considerable progress in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in children.

The authors of this monograph have expanded the issue of pediatric cardiology with echocardiographic procedures, which is of key importance in the diagnosis of heart disease, and discuss new therapeutic procedures - advances in cardiac surgery, anesthesia, resuscitation care and extracorporeal circulation methods. heart defects in early childhood. In addition to detailed diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, supplemented by rich pictorial documentation, sufficient space in the book is devoted to inflammatory and metabolic heart disease, cardiomyopathy and preventive cardiology.

Separate chapters deal with heart rhythm disorders, intensive care, pulmonary hypertension, anticoagulant therapy and heart transplantation. At the end of the monograph, general recommendations for physical and sports activity, choice of profession, vaccination and travel are given for children with heart disease.

The book is intended primarily for pediatric cardiologists, pediatricians and neonatologists who regularly encounter heart diseases in childhood. However, cardiac surgeons, adult cardiologists and anesthesiologists who care for patients with congenital heart disease will also find the necessary information here.

The authors emphasized the brevity, conciseness and clarity of the text.
