Atopic dermatitis (AD) has a chronic recurrent course, puts a special burden on the whole family and has a high impact on the patients' quality of life (QoL). When a group of patients to be examined cannot perform a self-rating, such as infants, outsider ratings (or proxy ratings) can be used.
They are usually required in studies on small children. The Infant's Dermatitis Quality of Life Index (IDQoL) questionnaire is designed for use in children with atopic dermatitis below the age of 4 years.
The severity of eczema is scored separately by the child's parents or regular carer. It was previously shown that gender of parent who should fill in the IDQoL cannot significantly influence the results of clinical studies.
