New procedures for the treatment of vaginal prolapse

Publication |
2005

Abstract

In the article, the author clearly describes the causes, incidence, clinical picture, diagnosis and some possibilities of surgical treatment of vaginal stump prolapse after hysterectomy. Vaginal stump prolapse does not occur very often after hysterectomy (abdominal, vaginal or laparoscopically assisted).

We previously thought that a thorough "hanging" of the vaginal stump after hysterectomy on the uteroinguinal chords and sacrouterine ligaments is one of the basic steps in preventing postoperative collapse of the vaginal fundus. However, with the increasingly used perioperative "hanging" of the stump (in our workplace abandoned many years ago), it turns out that even this step was not essential for the prevention of prolapse.
