We present case of female patient who developed mucormycosis of right forearm and elbow during the initial stage of the induction phase of ALL relapse treatment. Surgical removal of the affected tissues and auto-transplantation of skin, in combination with systemic therapy with amphotericin B lipid complex (ABLC) led to practically complete recovery.
Only a small defect remained on the patient's elbow, which is being treated conservatively. Mucormycosis interrupted the induction therapy of the main malignancy and delayed the chemotherapy protocols.
Nevertheless the therapy of leukaemia was successfully completed and the relapse prognosis was uninfluenced.
