Sudden events caused by non-Hodgkin's lymphoma

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2009

Abstract

Emergencies requiring urgent action may be caused by the tumor itself or by metabolic disorders due to humoral activity or tumor lysis. The clinical manifestations of sudden oncological events depend on the location and extent of the cancer.

The speed of the development of difficulties is also decisive for the clinical picture. In the acute phase, the underlying disease recedes into the background temporarily.

The doctor closest to the affected child must first ensure the stabilization of vital functions and send the child directly to a specialized pediatric oncology department as soon as possible. Delays between diagnosis and initiation of treatment are immediately life-threatening.

The aim of this work is to draw attention to life-threatening events that are typical of children with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
