Abstract

Chest pain is the second most common reason for contact with a hospital doctor after abdominal pain and is a major problem for the attending physician due to the large number of differential diagnoses. The spectrum of possible diseases ranges from benign intercostal neuralgia through esophageal rupture to acute ST elevation myocardial infarction and acute aortic syndrome.
