Abstract
Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) is one of the neurostimulation analgesic techniques. PNS is used to treat peripheral neuropathic pain.
It is an invasive, highly sophisticated and specialized method that is used when other methods of treatment fail. The article examines the PNS therapeutical technique.
We present current views on the principles of this kind of treatment, indications for PNS, its actual implementation and a comprehensive care for the ill. We describe our experience with this type of invasive treatment.
It relates to the case of intractable neuropathic pain in a patient with the injury of ulnar nerve after repeated surgical interventions. Prior to the implantation of the PNS it underwent a wide range of neuropathic pain treatment without any significant analgesic effect.
A crucial analgesic effect was only achieved after the use of the PNS.
