Josef II. established the General Hospital in Prague in years 1790/1791, thereby the treatment of venereal diseases was centralized. The first department for skin and venereal diseases was founded in general hospital in 1840, and it was led by Alois Kraus (1793-1847).
In addition, Kraus introduced from 1841 the first extraordinary lectures on skin and venereal diseases and taught by the textbook "A practical synopsis of Cutaneous Diseases according to the arrangment of dr. Willan" (1813).
