Efect of early pyeloplast on the function of kidney in advanced unilateral congenital hydronephrosis

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2007

Abstract

During the year 2005 twenty five children were operated on at our institution for an advanced congenital hydronephrosis. A microsurgical dismembering pyeloplasty was done in 7 children who were up to 6 weeks old.

In 5 children operated on in a newborn age we compared renal function by renal scan (dynamic scintigraphy with MAG 3) pre- and postoperatively. In 3 children postoperative renal function improved, one child had normal levels and postoperative function of kidney got worse in one child.

The deterioration of the function in one child may be due to preoperatively false overvalued renal tubular function.
