The recent past and present possibilities of achieving close metabolic compensation

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2004

Abstract

It is proven that increasing glycemia increases the risk of the occurrence or progression of microvascular - and, according to recent research, clearly also macrovascular - complications. On the contrary, it is demonstrably true that the reduction of glycemia, ie the achievement of normoglycemia (close metabolic compensation), significantly reduces the above risks.
