Comparison of the effectiveness of continous and interval or cummulative exercise

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2011

Abstract

The authors report published experiences with interval training in comparison to traditional endurance training. The results of some experimental studies show changes in exercise capacity and molecular and cellular adaptation in skeletal muscle after low volum sprint-interval training and high volume endurance training of the group of sixteen young men.

Biopsy samples obtained before and after training revealed similar changes in muscle oxidative kapacity. The results of sixteen studies of sedentary older population before and after short term exercise compared with endurance exercise suggest similar results.

The example aplication of accumulated short bouts in the two groups of patiens with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were presented.
