Subacute stent thrombosis following percutaneous coronary intervention is a rare complication, yet often with a fatal course. The most common causes of this complication include unrecognized coronary artery dissection, final diameter of the implanted stent and its length, and the increasingly more often discussed individual response to dual antiplatelet treatment.
Our report presents a case of recurrent stent thrombosis in coincidence with high residual platelet activity despite dual antiplatelet therapy. The condition was successfully treated with switching the patient from clopidogrel to ticlopidine therapy.
