Daptomycin - A new antibiotic for the treatment of serious infections caused by certain gram-positive bacteria

Abstract

Daptomycin is a cyclic polypeptide, a new antibiotic with bactericidal activity in vitro against many gram-positive bacteria. This well-tolerated antibiotic is used for intravenous treatment of serious infections caused by staphylococcus and streptococcus, or strains, resistant and multidrug-resistant to other antibiotics.

The indication for daptomycin include serious skin and soft tissues, including forms and right bakteremických endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
