The purpose of the study was to verify whether the collecting of the condensate of exhaled air (CEA) with the apparatus Ecoscreen (Jaeger-Toennies(R)) affects the ventilation and respiration parameters of patients presenting an obstructive pulmonary disease. The authors examined 54 patients (38 men, 16 women) - 41 were COPD patients, 13 were asthmatics.
Following the examination there was no significcint change in the values of peak expiratory frequency (PEF), haemoglobin saturation (Sa02) and pulse rate. The attenuation of the subjective feeling of dyspnoea was statistically significant.
The results of our study demonstrated that the collecting of CEA is a method that does not represent a burden for the patient and, in consequence, may be used even in patients with a high degree of bronchial obstruction.
