Biological therapy is an essential part of modern trends in treatment of many diseases. It is a form of treatment not only of oncologic diseases by far, but also autoimmune diseases, rheumatologic diseases, etc.
The currently available preparations either stimulate the immune system to act against the disease, or act directly against the disease in a way emulative of the immune system. To use a mild hyperbole, we could say that biological therapy is a 'smart' therapeutic modality, aiming a precise weapon at its target and bringing minimal damage to the rest of the body.
