Abstract
Periodic fevers form a group of diseases characterized by repeated attacks of febrile conditions accompanied by other inflammatory symptoms typical for each given unit. The attacks are separated by an asymptomatic period.
Periodic fevers are disorders of innate immunity leading to abnormal regulation and activation of inflammation. The same cause is caused by a larger group of so-called autoinflammatory diseases, which, in addition to fevers, also have other clinical manifestations mostly affecting serous surfaces, joints, skin and eyes.
The main categories are described in separate paragraphs. These are classic hereditary monogenic periodic fevers, a group of idiopathic syndromes without a known molecular cause, but with a clear clinical definition, pyogenic and granulomatous diseases and autoinflammatory diseases of the skin and bones.
