Nutrition and nutrition supplements in diabetics

Abstract

Diet in patients with diabetes mellitus consistent with the recommendations of a rational diet for the population at high risk cardiovascular disease. Important is the regulation of energy intake, the proportion of fats, carbohydrates and proteins, is suitable increased intake of fiber.

They differ in the strategy for dietary treatment 1 diabetes mellitus and 2 type. The recommended daily dose of vitamins normally covered by a rational balanced diet.

For diabetics it is appropriate to increase the intake of foods rich in antioxidants, reduce the effects of oxidative stress (tocopherol, carotenoids, flavonoids and ascorbic acid). Pharmacological treatment antioxidant vitamin supplementation and medication is not routinely justified because there is acceptable evidence of its efficiency.

Attention should be paid to the dietary supplements and herbal medication treatment limitations.
