Exercise, physical activity and kidney disease in children and adolescents

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2008

Abstract

Physical activity and the associated physical activity of children and adolescents with kidney disease bring certain risks, but these are balanced by its positive effect on the conditions associated with these diseases. The extent of the load should be chosen individually according to the patient's condition, especially his renal function.

Proper physical activity reduces cardiovascular risk, improves bone health and has a beneficial effect on mental health. Reckless restriction of sports or recreational physical activity, especially in nephropathy with normal or only slightly reduced kidney function, brings a number of subsequent health and social risks.

Consideration and recommendations on physical activity should be an integral part of the care of children and adolescents with nephropathy. Individually controlled physical activity may also be beneficial in pediatric patients receiving dialysis and kidney transplantation.
