Acute cardiovascular reaction to bout of static exercise (isometric muscular contraction) includes raise of heart rate, blood pressure and total peripheral resistance. Adaptation to isometric exercise of small muscle groups seems to result in (at least) temporary reduced cardiovascular risk.
Adaptation to chronic strength training results in mild concentric hypertrophy of left ventricle and probably reduced arterial compliance. Pressor effect of chronic strength training may not be as strong as it was cited for a long time.
