Abstract
Ambroxol is currently one of the most popular mucolytics. Its favorable effi cacy-safety profi le has been confi rmed not only by an abundant clinical experience but also by the results of many clinical trials.
In this article, ambroxol is discussed not just in the context of cough but also in that of e.g. sore throat and its treatment. The ability of ambroxol to relieve the sore throat pain is usually being explained by its local anesthetic action; however, its ability to interfere with viral replication cannot be reliably excluded either.
