Abstract

Moderate alcohol consumption reduces the incidence of ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. With consumption of small doses of alcohol also decreases the mortality from cardiovascular diseases and complications.

Most healthy is to drink small amounts of alcohol - 30 to 40 g for men and 20 to 30 g for women. It is best to drink every day.

In less frequent consumption increases the risk of and mortality from cardiovascular disease. The highest risk compared with regular drinkers of small amounts of alcohol has been demonstrated in abstainers.

In the group where they drank alcohol in the total amount of the range recommended weekly drinking suddenly ("binge drinking"), was far less risk than abstainers, but higher than in temperate frequent drinkers.
