Abstract

The modern textbook Children's Traumatology, on the creation of which nearly three dozen experts worked, provides a brief but comprehensive picture of hospital emergency care for serious childhood injuries. It maps the issue in its entirety - it is no coincidence that a pediatric surgeon, an anesthetist and an orthopedist took on the role of organizer.

The introductory - general - part provides basic information about resuscitation and stabilization, trauma score and transport, shock, initial assessment of the condition and therapy, anesthesia and provides a brief overview of the imaging methods used.

The second - special - part begins with the presentation of the most common types of injuries, i.e. craniocerebral, maxillofacial injuries, ENT injuries, eye injuries, chest and lung injuries, esophagus and diaphragm, heart, blood vessels, liver and bile ducts, spleen, duodenum, pancreas, stomach and small intestine, large intestine and rectum, retroperitoneal and pelvic injuries, urinary system and birth trauma. This is followed by chapters dedicated to the issue of burns, falls from a height, foreign bodies in the digestive system, birth injuries in newborns, abused children and chemical injuries. The most extensive chapter of the special part is rightly devoted to injuries of the locomotor system, which also presents comprehensively: from general states dedicated to bone (growth, quality, vascular supply, healing, etc.) to individual types of locomotor system injuries (traumas of the upper extremity, lower extremity, spine , injury complications).

The conclusion of the book consists of several perspectives in the field of supportive care for an injured child (care for a critically injured child, organ failure, nutritional care, ventilation support, rehabilitation) and the necessary prevention of child injuries.
